The Problem

Repositioning is one of the most frequent and strenuous patient handling tasks. SafeShift aims to reduce caregiver muscle load and time on task while improving resident comfort.

Repositioning illustration

Current repositioning methods require significant manual effort from healthcare workers.

Workplace stress illustration

The healthcare sector accounted for more than 18% of all WCB injury claims in 2023 with more than 77,800 days lost due to injuries in 2024.

Pain illustration

Musculoskeletal injuries due to patient repositioning accounted for over 40% of the injuries in healthcare.

Our Solution

A bed sheet attached to motor-driven rollers on either side of the bed gently turns the patient onto their side, enabling sling placement and backside access with minimal manual effort from caregivers.

Raised Position

Lowered Position

Stowed Position

SafeShift device in stowed position
  • Raised position: Allows healthcare workers to easily turn patients onto their side for sling placement and backside care.
  • Lowered position: Provides gentle repositioning with reduced manual effort while maintaining patient comfort.
  • Stowed position: Compactly stores under the bed without interfering with normal care activities.
